Fiddler's Green X-15
I love the X-15. It has all the qualities of a great airplane: large amounts of excess power, ridiculous speed, and a place up front for only one pilot! I have a few more X-15 models waiting to be built, but decided to do a "quick" build for my first attempt at this great plane (and my third paper model to date). I finished the model while one the road in Traverse City, MI.
Well, I got home and decided to hang the plane in my kid's room...but then I thought it would be cool to make a set of auxiliary tanks and install them, just for fun. I scaled down the tanks from my ecardmodels X-15 and built them, using some CA glue to make them non-porous for the aluminum paint. After completing the tanks (yes, they are too big...I know) I went out to my "paint booth" to apply a coat of clear varnish...instead I grabbed the wrong can and applied some white enamel. Doh! So I grabbed a black Sharpie and started coloring...the end result isn't too bad, but I am still thinking of converting this to #2 with the white ablative coating. This has been a pretty fun model! |

Nicely done - clean and imaginative. A lot to like.
