Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford

It's a theatre, but not a theatre. Well not in the normal sense of the word. It's more of an assembly hall where degree ceremonies, lectures, and other functions of Oxford University take place. Designed by Christopher Wren and built of Cotswold stone, my brother-in-law tells me.

It measures just a smidge over 7 x 8cm, so it's a little'un. The only info on the one-sheet kit is that the copyright lies with M. G. Oakenfull, 1989. Can't remember where I got it, but it was a long time ago.

From what I remember during a tour of Oxford, the Sheldonian was built for the graduation ceremonies, because the students were becoming to rowdy at the previous venue?
It was many years ago, but we didn't go inside... We did get a pretty good tour of Brasenose college, and St. Mary's Church.

Thank you for your responses, folks. I've got two or three other Oxford architecture kits by Oakenfull knocking around somewhere. Must try and find them because this one was so enjoyable to do.

Is one of them the Radcliffe Camera? That building is always prominent in photos of the University.

Hello Doug. I believe one of them is the Radcliffe Camera, and the Clarendon Building is a good candidate as well. Haven't found them yet. Still looking.
