Nice of you all to drop by, and thank you for your comments.

danzam and Isaac: Of course you are both right (hangs head in shame). I was overexcited at getting this thead going and didn't pay enough attention to it. My apologies.

V_K: A superb defence, but I have to put my hand up to this one.

Mike: It's pretty crowdwed in there already!

As an afterthought, can anyone tell me how many animals are involved in the model? No cash prizes I'm afraid but the person who comes closest will win the accolade of their peers. Bear in mind that not all the animals can be seen in the photos (there is an aviary in the roofspace of Noah's cabin, for example) so you'll have to extrapolate from what you can see.

Happy calculating!

Well, this is my calculation:
  • 8 men
  • 2 giraffes
  • 4 turtles
  • 2 sheep
  • 2 zebras (alas separated)
  • 2 goats
  • 2 tigers
  • 2 pangolins
  • 2 squirrels
  • 2 dromedaries
  • 2 ostriches
  • 2 penguins
  • 2 kangaroos
  • 2 orangutans
  • 2 elephants
  • 2 walruses
  • 2 crocodiles
  • 2 snake
  • 2 lions
  • 4 on the back of lions
  • 2 polar bears
  • 2 wolves
  • 6 on the back of polar bears
  • 2 pandas
  • 2 warthogs
  • 2 koalas
  • 2 monkeys
  • 2 eagles
  • 2 donkeys
  • 2 peacocks
  • 2 tapirs
  • 2 geese
  • 2 horses
  • 2 deer
  • 2 foxes
  • 2 porcupines
  • 2 wildebeest
  • 2 cheetahs
  • 2 antelopes
  • 2 hippos
  • 2 raccoons
  • 2 pigs
  • 2 rams
  • 2 dogs
  • 2 hens
  • 2 pairs of birds in the aviary
for a total of 108 animals.

I cheated, because I always counted coupes even if I saw just one specie, helping me counting also the one on the catwalk.
The load protocol follows the LIFO (Last In, First Out) structure, in fact the giraffes are already onboard before all the others and are still onboard when the others are walking away.

You're a real treat asettico. I'm so glad to have met you. And what a Herculean task you undertook.

I have to confess that I've not actually counted the animals myself; the back of the book says how many there are in total. I do remember cutting out a lot of them though. From the visible animals I would think you are spot on with your calculation. But there are some which aren't visible, either because they are hidden from view or are too insignificant to show up in the photos. You'll have to up the numbers still further for the correct figure.

Nevertheless, I am pleased to announce that you are the reigning champion of The Number Of Animals Guessathon. Well done!

You know, the more complex the mind, the more it needs to play!!! ROTFL!!!!!!

I dare! When you are the only one doing it. Even though I never liked football, in a tournament I played when I was young, I was the bomber (for just a few days) simply because I was the first one to make the first goal... :-P

P.S.: I don't agree with the giraffes accommodation, they are the only ones forced to respect the social distance...

You mean no one has found the Unicorns yet? Of course there's a pair in there somewhere. They're probably hiding under that rather sumptuous bed with all the creepy crawlies. Noah would never have forgotten to load up such important beasts ... or did he?

According to Shel Silverstein and the Irish Rovers, the unicorns missed the boat.

I somehow think ol' Noah pre-dated our royal family by just a few years, so 'ow come they got to use one to help the lion to hold up their shield?

Next thing I know y'all be tellin' me there weren't any dragons in there either.

How did the Kangaroos and Koala bears transport themselves from Australia to the middle east to make it onto Noah's ark??????

Same with other exotic animal that Noah never seen?

Isaac

It is clearly an alternate universe ark. And quite a nice one, especially in Philip's hands. I think if we look closely enough, we will see that Noah is enjoying a pigfoot and a bottle of beer.
