English Village Designs

Back in 2021 I posted some pictures of St Nicholas church, a model designed by a lady named Anne Hoskins, in order to help with fundraising for a church celebration. Anne must have enjoyed the experience for she went on to issue a series of simple models under the "English Village Designs" marque. Each is a single sheet of A4 card on a see through polythene bag with a logo stuck on. I don't know how many were released altogether but I found three in my stash. Thinking they looked quite jolly I gave one a go.

Anyhow, here's Anne's take on a Town House to a scale of 1/76 or thereabouts. It's from 1985.

By the way, you can find her church here if you so desire: St Nicholas Church, Hurst, Berkshire

Something about the drawing style gives it a bright cheerful feeling, I like it.

Nice. It appears to be artfully "hand drawn".
Is that a bit of snow and ice I see on the windows?

Very nice, P. Is the card stock thick or do you use cardboard backing? I haven't made any architecture yet, so am unsure. Thanks.

Going by video scenes from the UK narrowboat canal boaters I follow on YouTube, of houses both alongside canals and within the towns, it looked to me like an effort to represent reflections in the glass panes.

Hello friends, I'm so pleased at you dropping by and leaving your mark.

Aloniuk: I couldn't say how thick the card is but I estimate it to be around 200gsm or so. You don't need backing of such card at this scale. Truth be told, being a lazy soul, I use reinforcement very rarely.

The little cottage looks cute.
These hand drawn elevations are really cool.
They combine architectural drawing and book illustration, creating a unique style.
Thanks for sharing!

Cotswold Manor House

Hello, Anne Hoskins fans. One more from the imagination and paintbrush of the creator of English Village Designs. Dwellings looking very similar to this Manor House can be found all over the Cotswolds, an area of England that Anne was very familiar with. She issued the kit in 1980 and it is to 1:72 scale.

A charming model. Reminds me of Chip Fyn's early endeavors at British country structures.
