La Maison Kammerzell, Strasbourg

La Maison Kammerzell occupies a prime spot next door to Strasbourg Cathedral, so any visitor to the cathedral is going to clap eyes on this little beauty. It dates from 1467, being commissioned by one Hans Joerger as a base for his drapery business. A bit over a century later it was acquired by a cheesemaker, Martin Braun, who carried out some reconstruction work and added the Renaissance stye decorations. The man giving the house it's current name was Philippe-Francois Kammerzell, a grocer, who took over the building in 1846. The premises currently hosts a restaurant and digging around in the link below will reveal some very nice pictures and a short video.

A very long time ago I picked up this kit during a day-trip to Strasbourg; from a market stall I seem to remember. It was published by a concern called Art Miniature, Livron, date unknown. Scale is shown as 8mm : 1m. and it measures 12 x 4.5cm. Only the frontage and one side are depicted; the rear face just isn't there so the paper skeleton is completely open to the elements.

Reserve a table? Certainly sir!: Maison Kammerzell | Restaurant et Hotel a Strasbourg

Bon appetit!

Indeed. Please sir, the Three-Fish Sauerkraut for me.
And the wine with that, I think . . . an Alsace Riesling will pair nicely.
And for desert . . . I hear Kougelhopf is on the menu?

Such a nice model to have one side omitted. I probably would have taken the textures and designed a back.

Excellent build, sir. And thank you for the history lesson.

Very nice looking 3 sided building. Nice history of the various owners and uses, too.
If you put walls and floors in it could be a mini dollhouse.

Nice model

We were in Strasbourg a few years ago, but I didn't see this building. The city is full of great looking buildings

Cheers
Mike
