Why the 2D? I like the 2.5D because it brings it up off the table and makes it easier to manipulate. It would still have teh hex base as the fullsize model

Is there a need for the 2d?

Some people would start playing as soon as they have read the game. I do that a lot. Even when I don't have the minis painted or assembled, I start playing to gain experience and tho know if I'll like it. Then I start adding minis. And some people would like to play the game (it will be that good) but don't really care much for minis. Why leave anyone beyond if it's easy to give them room?

I'm for 2D especially now - it makes for fast playtesting ability.

just remember the 2d and bases of 2.5 d need to be the same size as the overall real model to maintain scale understanding makes sense to me though!
