Onto the UV mapping
Gary, for those of us that don't know 3D modeling, what's "UV mapping" mean?

I think he stares at a black light holding a pencil and a compass :P

ok, not really. I think it involves somehow adding the textures to the model.

and although Wiki isn't always on mark, this looks straight forward.

Turns out it is just "alphabet", where 3D uses "X,Y & Z" axes, 2D uses "U & V". In reality, 2D is just X & Y normally, but since we're talking about taking a 3D construct and 'de-constructing' into a 2D plane for the purposes of texturing and 'unfolding', a bit different reference is needed to distinguish from a normal '2D model' consisting of single plane projections (as in 3-views, or 'plans'.)

Learn something new every day, eh?

BTW, looking forward to this one, Gary. You certainly always manage to tickle my interests! Now, I'm just praying for a 1:48 version... going internet searching for marking schemes (can't be too many choices given it was a prototype...)

Just curious about your desire for a 1:48 version..... I too like to build in 1:48 but I don't really worry too much about the scale, I actually prefer them bigger so that when I reduce it to 1:48 it carries the detail.....Make it bigger Gary;-) 1:33 would be awesome.

Also, as far as schemes go, I hope you like Natural Metal, because as far as I've been able to find, I've looked for almost 40 years, the 13 XFM's that were built were all left unpainted....... I'd be really interested in knowing about other schemes.....do you know of any? I'm talking real and not 'what if's'...

I haven't looked lately, but I seem to recall a natural metal version with chrome yellow wings. Off to Google Images I go.

Well, *at least* 1:48, reducing is easy to do but enlarging gets dicey, paper-size-wise. I suppose the biggest impact either way, is how the paper thickness is addressed.

1/33 would rock!!! The interior is relatively simple so it wouldn't be a trial to scratch an interior to go under the canopies...

This is really looking good.....I can't wait....

It looks like your going with the tail dragger version? Most of the picts I've seen of the XFM show it as the tricycle landing gear version.

OK, as I write this, I searched in Google images and most of the images there show it as the tail dragger version.............. you go with what you've got.....

Thanks,
Swampfox
