Bad news, Good news

I'm sorry to say my 2nd hard drive was pronounced dead this morning
so all my W.I.P.s are lost.....

The good news is I got me a new W.I.P. folder started and still have all my 3 views saved

Gotta be able to see the H'drive for anything to recover lost files
My I.T. friend says
"Can’t do anything with the drive it only shows up randomly and cant initialise or format it, even if it’s connected directly or via usb."

Carbonite won't recover files from a hd it make back-up copies online. It would not save ones already lost, just new work you do. We had ours set up for every 2 hr it would save info. When our hd died my wife lost about 20 min worth of work and got every thing else back.....Rich

Gary, did you try freezing the HD before attempting to access it?

Freeze your hard drive to recover data: Myth or reality? - [Geeks are Sexy] technology news

You never know...maybe it will spin up and be accessible long enough to get what files you need off of it before it dies completely....since it is pretty much dead already. Don't forget to use a good freezer bag .

so sorry gary. FWIW, yahoo email is unlimited storage, and upto 25mb attachments. I have mine set to automatically save all sent messages forever. As a result, I can zip up my WIP folders, and then email the zip file to a fake email address. the result being, I have online backup of my WIP folders, in the sent folder of my email. if you include a good subject, yahoo emails search engine can find it lickety split. I'm guessing I have over 10GB of backups in my email.

How I back up my stuff:
Local school district each year sells used computers for $50 (complete desk top sytems-w/operating system, monitor, mouse, & keyboard).

Bought one and now use it to back up to. Cheaper than my external drive.

My laptop is another backup source that is portable.

On-line resources can be hacked. My laptop and backup desktop are never on-line.

Cheap way to backup!

Mike
