Base game models?

Thoughts on base game models? Quick thoughts from me are

1 generic space freighter 3d
1 generic multi purpose fighter (space and atmosphere) 3d
1 generic transport 3d
1 generic afv 3d
1 generic troop 2.5d
multiples generic bases - printed 2d

of course they can print/build multiple to make the armies as needed

each would need layers to change basic colors to represent races.

suggestions appreciated.

First Thoughts

Ok, here's something I did in a few minutes just to get the ball rolling on ideas...

It's a standard Fighter, with options for:
2 engine upgrades (one top, one bottom)
2 missile upgrades (each side)
3 Gun upgrades (each side)

I'm still not really sure about the amount of detail, shape-wise etc that's needed, but, as I said, this just to get us started...
Comments, suggestions, new ideas, all welcome. :D :D

very nice! Haggard is going to work on some core models too. I think this will be better suited as an add on model though because I want the core generic models to be set as is and available to all races so a complete game can be played with them - make sense? Then upgradable stuff like this will come in as add on packs to be purchased. For this size and how fast they should be built I would say this would be a fair amount of detail (although textures would need to be improved) and layers incorporated in the final for race symbols etc

Thanks for getting the ball rolling!

Still toying

Here's the next quickie, a freighter.
Some info:

Base Model:

- 1 Engine set
- 4 Guns
- 6 Cargo (each side)

Fully Upgraded:

- 3 Engine sets
- 10 Guns
- 3 Missile sets
- 18 Cargo (each side)

None of these models have any textures whatsoever, I just slapped some color on the parts for ease of reference. :D

I think I've started the ball now, so I'll wait for some others to pipe in!

One more thing Chris, what size are you looking at for a built model? That would be a deciding factor for detail too...

Thunderchild:

I like your model of the freighter. The only issue that I have is that it is a type of model commonly seen. I think that this game has to have a special feel. A difference that will set it appart. But that is only my oppinion.

size is an issue isnt it here are my thoughts...

these have to fit into table top gaming so they need to be quite small. I am thinking freighter sizes probably 3-5 inches and fighters 1-2 inches.

for vehicles 3-5 and troops 1 inch round base. I figured all troops will be 2.5d representation.

I am also wanting to include one BIG copyof each ship that will be well detailed and can be of any size the designer sees fit. This will create nice crossover appeal to the typical card modeler who doesnt want to game. I also think that we should have a nicely illustrated 2.5d representative marker at the same size as a trooper (1 inch wide 2 inches tall) which will make quick play much easier and crowded battle fields with lots of players much easier

Here's an example of the game pieces used in FASA's Renagade Legion board game.

Simple but effective. Using this type of approach you can print a good bit of detail.

Cheers JTF
