You might be infected by a spyware virus. This program does not contain spyware but is easily infected. This usually occurs on Macs but there is no reason to expect the windows version is immune.

There have also been reports of system error problems when this program is re-installed without completely removing the previous install. I suspect it could be related to a conflict in the registry file. Have you run CCleaner on your registry file?

install it allow it to update

and run a complete scan on entire system

if it finds something allow it to delete it,
this software has saved my bacon on some really nasty stuff,
and its quiet good
if your not allowed to down load it ( i wasnt my spy ware was really nasty)

dl it on a flash drive and then install

and run in normal mode

(i wasnt able too)

if not then boot to safe mode with networking
and then update it and run the scan

its slower in safe mode

but it will run

again this software is golden and i use it with endusers in the helldesk (yes i spelled it right) i run.

im going to look at the errors again but they are unfamiliar to me ill pass it along to some admins at work and see the response i get...

but if you got spyware

this stuff will find it and remove it. period. for free.... :D

again it has saved me bacon from some very very NASTY stuff...

Hi,

I checked your event manager screenshots.

The first one shows the error as "c00000218". A quick google search tells me that the problem is a corrupt windows registry file...bad. :(

The next two screen shots tells you of an HTTP service that failed to start because of lack of storage.

If I got those errors, I'd first check the integrity of my hard disks. Try to run chkdsk in offline mode:
- Right click on your HDD icon, then click on the "Properties" menu option.
- Then click on the "Tools" tab.
- Click on the "Check now.." button.
- There are two checkboxes there. Check both of them.
- Click on the Start button. Windows will now tell you it needs to reboot to begin the test. Reboot your system.
- When will now happen is windows will do an offline disk check. If it encounters file errors, it will try to fix them.

Once your check disk operation is done, and you've booted back to windows, now is the time to check how much free space is available on your HDD. (Remember the last 2 screen shots?) Those errors could be caused either by a lack of HDD space OR errors on your HDD....

Finally, re-check the integrity of your registry by installing and running CCleaner.



If things still don't work out... you can also try to use the System Restore facility of XP. Run the system restore function and pick a date just before the problem occurred. Windows SHOULD be able to restore the state of your registry to that point. Don't worry about your data. Windows won't touch that. (However, since it's WINDOWS, i'd still do a backup before I run the restore function.....)

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the help and advice. It seems that the computer
had some sort of registry "burp" that corrupted several files necessary for certain operations.
The failure of any one would have been easy, but each one that failed, in turn, caused a
cascade failure of different programs and routines. But all is well now, and actually running
better than before, so again, thank you all for the help!

Ray, Sorry for the late reply. A useful system utility is the "System File Checker" (sfc /scannow). It fixes corrupted Registry Files. An online explanation and use is here:
