Just threw my HP All-in-One into the backyard

Simple photo printing task was an absolute failure, so after spending over an hour trying to get the POS F4400 unit to print, I decided I no longer wished to be HP's b****, paying ridiculous ink prices and getting constantly stressed by excessive "HP footprint" on my computer. I retrieved the 'carcass' from the yard and am sending it to HP's headquarters in a box with my declaration of independence from the weasels at HP. Not that they will apparently care. but I have certainly had enough.

Now I need advice on what might constitute a good printer since I will have to go shopping tomorrow!

Happy New Year, chums!

My Hp all in one went to the great scrapyard in hell, same problems as you, excessive ink cost, no appreciable quality improvement, ridiculous processes jamming up my ram, and the bloody thing would paper jam as soon as spit. I hope it's machine spirit is as ravaged as its' carcass is, it only went to the recycling after a thorough de-stressing on my part, which left it very much the worse for wear. I still haven't managed to clear all its' parasite processes from my registry, and that's not for want of trying.

KieferRhys, I had to Uninstall five separate times, rebooted then went through the registry using the Find function for all " HP" (that is 'space-HP') instances, found everything and deleted except for one that was apparently 'in use' or something because I got a delete error. I wanted everything 'HP' off my box!

I don't know how damaged the printer was, however I'm sure, being a piece of crap, it probably showed a lack of impact resistance (hah!) I should have learned my lesson with this unit's predecessor when the scanner developed a 'low res strip' while scanning. Dang, I do tend to give the benefit of the doubt. I mean, HP did make decent equipment *at one time* (I have a 12 year old laser at work that just keeps going...) But something happened to them, they turned into money greedy weasels, for sure, and now apparently make stuff that is on par with Kodak cameras ("One drop, they stop".)

Anyway, I have been attempting to resuscitate an old Epson Photo 1200 (the print heads are gummed up) and possibly setting it up with a CISS - if I locate a CISS that replaces the print heads, I'll be in business and can print A4 size paper, too!

Wish me luck!

Can I add my support to those traumatised by owning a HP printer (I am here for you Robert ).

My HP all in one is still occasionally capable of printing but I predict a harvest of mechanical components is on the cards this new year. I may convert the case to a plant pot.

Now which brand of printer shall we replace the despicable HPs with?

Ideas for constructive (and destructive) recycling would be fun too.

David

Like goodduck said have an EPSON! I have Epson Stylus SX210 all in one and had no worries. 60€ for the lot I think that's cheap (the ink prize is still a bummer but with my building speed not a major issue anyway). I use Epson doubleweight matte photopaper with it and the results pretty much beats printed kits if the original model is well made.

Also, a straight through feed is always a plus!

I'd choose an HP over a Lexmark any day.

Don't you guys have printers at work?

Robert,
If you check out this thread it may give you some insight on
deciding on a printer. New Printer Came

I have an Epson workforce 1100 and have been satisfied with it. It is a wide
format printer and the colors are exceptional. The straight through paper feed
allows for heavier weight paper and I've never had a problem with it. I too
got fed up with HP printers and would not recommend them to anyone...Ron

Yep, dealing with electronic gagets has its own nomeclature.

Did you hit any key to continue? Best to do it before the blue screens shows up.

Here's how its done:
1) Turn system on
2) Find the area/command that isn't working/printing right
3) Hit any key to continue with a 12lb [5.44kg] sledge hammer, the hammer has a fairly large striking surface, this means you must hit more than once to make sure of getting the key you're trying to hit.

In a couple of days it works like "brand new" after removing from the shipping box.

Best regards,
Mike Bauer
