Well, my printer died and I am up for a new one. Any recommendations on current model printer (ink-jet or laser) that is best for heavy color use models, like ship hulls, etc. TNX

Look at the large tank printers, Epson Eco-tank and I believe Canon has one as well.
I would look at an Eco-tank after my Work-Force printer dies, or go back to a similar unit, 13x19 max print area, 11x17 scanner bed

I would not recommend the hp deskjet 4000 series. the colors are fine but not to the quality that one would want for models.

I am always amazed that there are folks who have had good luck with Canon and Epson. They must just hate me as the two Canon and two Epson printers have been nothing but problems.
I am hoping that the Brother InkVestment printers hold up to the reputation that Brother has with me, but that won't be until January. Whatever you do, avoid the Epson Workfore Pro WF-3720. It has been the worst printer I have ever owned and look forward to replacing the gigantic paper weight/paper shredder

Avoid Canon ink tank printers. I got the G3200 model and it worked great for about 6 months. After that, it has caused me nothing but grief. I have used more ink unclogging the nozzles than for actual printing. There is also the fairly common 5b00 error that disables the printer and blackmails you to do hardware repairs. If none of the workarounds work, you will need to spend $$ fixing it or trash the whole thing.

I have an Epson WorkForce 3640. It has been reliable. I like the wireless feature, and the ink is resistant to moisture but is expensive.

I think that these discussions, when they come up, point out an issue in the industry. Two identical printers will give totally different performances.
It's a crapshoot
