Search engine blues

When I use this forum's search engine to find posts about certain aircraft (e.g., S-3, F-16, F35), the search engine either says that the term is too short or it says that it can't find any posts with that term. Is the search engine broken, or will it not search for words (terms) shorter than, say, four characters? Thanks.

yes there is a limit on the word size, any other term gets results.

Maybe Jason can look into fixing that

It would be a big help to be able to search for aircraft by their designation; there are many (F-35, F14, P-38, et al.) that aren't "findable" with the current software.

Use the aircraft's informal name ... F-35=Raptor, F-14=Tomcat etc.

Hope that helps. I noticed the same issue. =)

I notice that the Gee Bee racer gets intentionally mispelled as GeeBee often to get around the same issue.

I don't use website search engines, I use Google Advance search. Just type in the web address you want to search and the item to search for...works quite well.

The problem with going with less then 3 characters is that it slows down the search and increases the load on the server. Not to meantion it tends to retrn too many posts.
