Sometimes I can edit, sometimes I can't.
I read the FAQ section, but there's no (evident) explanation of why an edit button will appear on my post when I first post it, but not later.
Sometimes I go back over my previous posts to add something without starting a new post, and therefore unnecessarily bumping my own thread; to make grammar or spelling corrections that I failed to make earlier; to reword what I wrote; or to delete an old post of mine that I feel is unnecessary. I thoroughly enjoy Paper Modelers, it's a wonderful site, but what I still like about Zealot is that the good, old edit button is always there. There, I had to edit this post already. Now you won't be able to! My observation is that you cannot edit a post after someone has posted after.
But I really don't know the "official" rules. |

that is correct Carl,
After the first reply we lock the the ability to edit. We also have a time limit on editing, to prevent people coming back and deleting whole entire threads or their posts

Heh. You need a hot button on that. Sometimes there can be a message, let's say, after one too many beers, that should be deleted after an evening's good sleep. Maybe a special hot button Rick?

You can always report a post - if the moderators agree it can or should be deleted we can do so.

You can in fact edit a post even after somebody else has posted in the thread. Just tried it, not to be a wise-guy or anything, but just because I did it anyway and happened to notice it after reading this thread. The one-hour limit is the only one that applies, it seems. - L.

My experience has been that if you edit before a reply is posted, it doesn't have the "last edited by" notation at the bottom.

I've done so much editing that I noticed I could edit once, at least if it is fairly immediately after posting, without the software marking me down as a compulsive editor. The moment I try editing a second time, however, I get pinned down. Which I don't mind.
Sometimes, though, I get a notice even the first time, even without someone else posting in between. Not sure what makes that happen; my best guess so far is that too many minutes have lapsed between posting and first editing. As it would also if someone else got in there in between, but the evidence doesn't support a direct causality here. Looks more like a coincidence to me - more minutes, a chance for someone else to get in. The things we worry about... L. PS. I managed to edit this once without being caught... but then I had to stick my nose in there for a second round. Darn! Last edited by Leif Ohlsson; 04-15-2009 at 12:33 PM. I found that now. I wanted to edit first post in my thread to say FINISH since I am done with the model and want people to know it is final now with pictures.
I notice now I can edit this even though someone make post after me! Last edited by Keds_Girl_Lala; 04-15-2009 at 01:13 PM. Reason: i wanted to see if it worked |
