How do most people browse for threads and posts to read?

How do most people use this site when they're looking for something new to see?
  • Check the recent posts on the home tab
  • Go to the forum tab and see which forums have new posts
  • Go directly to their favorite forum
  • Use their user control panel to check their subscribed threads and forums
  • Something else
  • Some of everything?

Features

As an aside, I know this is an old-school forum, and it's all good as-is, but in case anyone was looking to add some features, suggesting these:
  • Let users react to posts with smilies, social media-style. Would save making a reply post sometimes.
  • When clicking on a user name, display the threads the user has started right on their profile page. It's kind of obscure to know to click on the "Statistics" tab and then find the link to the threads the user has started there. (My personal hack to address this is to put the link to the list in my signature.)
In any case, keep on truckin'! You have my gratitude that this forum is here and continues on.

I invariably look at unread posts first as I tend to visit the site often. Or head straight to a sub-forum.

Yes to reactions and to see threads started by user. Also might be nice to be able to mark certain threads to get specific notifications they have new posts.

I would also advocate for an improved search function. If I search for several well-known subjects by their common designation (eg 'B-17') the search complains that the term is too common or short. But typing in 'B-17 bomber/fortress' will bring up lots of things that are not what I'm looking for.

The only point I would address here, is that using a "one click" smiley, social
media style, eliminates the conversational interactions between members, reducing the forum
to a bland, non personal platform. If you feel the need for a smiley ( and they do have their uses), they are available as part of the reply.

As far as the search goes, I think it requires 4 non-special characters. I tried b-17g and b17g, but only got results with the latter. I've seen this limitation on other sites as well.

I mostly look at new posts. I will search according to actual model to see if anyone has built a particular one before or during my build of said model.

I do this to get info on problem areas and to see if starting a thread of my own would add any additional value.

Correct, though I do use hyphens to help fill out to 4.

I hate trying to figure out how to search for 3 letter named items. P51 vs P-51 for example....

I'm of the same mind as Doug and Don.
