it looks to me like acrylic hobby paint sprayed on with an airbrush. The colour is probably called "Russian Green".

If I were building the ZIS-3 I think I'd colour the model with a graphics program and let the printer do most of the colouring for you.

Regards,

Charlie

If you intend to paint it, use a gray primer first as a base for your paint.

If you have the hobby shop to buy paints, Tamiya spray can paint TS Olive Drab 2 (not Olive Drab) it is the good color. I use it on my T-34-85 tank.

Russian guns are painted in khaki or olive green, but never oleve drab.

thanks fot the color note about the guns. am still trying primers etc.
a lot of crafty paper on internet craft site recommend future floor wax as a sealer. i know plastic modelers use it a lot. have been searching for some and have yet to find any future floor wax in canada. well my part anyway. have run across pledge with future in several stores. looks about the same consistancy and is acrylic floor wax.
thanks everyone gary

Future will give a gloss finish, a no-no on any armored vehicle. If you have a hardware store or WalMart, buy any brand of clear matte spray. That's what you want to use.

should have been clearer. i am having trouble with the acrylic paint and spray softening the glue. sprays very expensive. hoped to use acrylic floor finish sprayed on with an airbrush(which i have from trains) to seal the card stock and glue before painting with colors
