I also will be going with the Fokker DR-I. I will be doing it in the large scale and also in BW (wife is to busy to print it up for me with work on her high end color printer).
I will try to scratch some upgrades to it.

I was going to do the Bristol Boxkite, but the rigging was a bit out of my skill level to do it justice. I will put that in the stash for another time.

Here are my early efforts on a couple of Dr 1s'. I am doing a little scratch building on the radial engines and a basic cockpit. I am adding a thin wooden strip inside the upper and lower wings . sanded to a very thin edge. This will cut down on wing warpage and add strength. The scale is roughly 1/30. Wingspan is 71/2 inches. Wow I am so impressed by the talent all of you folks are showing on these threads.....

For the crankcase shape, I used modeling clay. just cut out a little round piece and glue the center of the printed engine to it. For the cylinders . I used a wooden skewer stick, wrapped with a narrow piece of newspaper to make it slightly larger on one end then wrapped it in thread. each cylinder is 1/4 inches long. Glued 9 of them to the clay piece. I used a Sharpie cap to cut out the engine center. Not very hi tech....Bill

I have built a few Dr.I's from the F.G. collection. I found that the wing struts come out a bit short. It doesn't show up much on the smaller scales, but it really comes out when you scale it up. Just a heads up!
