FGMM Nuther 109

Actually, I tried out a small FW190 first. Wasn't really happy with the results. I added a clear canopy and a little pilot seat, but the end result wasn't thrilling;

So today I thought I'd try something green for St. Patty's; it's one of the 109 versions, but I forgot which one!
I decided to go for a clear canopy;

This was pretty tough, more because of the heavy 100 lb. paper than the size. The thick paper delaminates easily with these thin sections.
I roughed in an interior as well. This is the pilot's seat. I'm just winging all this, of course!

The interior has all the walls, instrument panel, pedals (even I can't see them), seat, seat belts, joystick.

The model went together well, but I could have done a better job of it at 65/67 lb. stock ( I already had this printed out). The canopy was just too darn thick to get a good fit.

The antenna wire is one of my hairs blackened with a sharpie.

This scales out somewhere near 1/44, but I don't think it's exactly that. I'm sure if someone wanted to, there room for some real detailing in this scale.

Here it is next to a much smaller P-51;

I had forgotten how much of a challenge and how much fun these small scales are. (Must get back to bigger stuff, must get back to bigger stuff...)

There should be a law for how small these things are allowed to go.

As punishment, I demand you go build a 2:1 scale GeeBee (twice lifesize:p).

A nice achievement: a clean canopy at 1/144th. I don't think I've seen this before.

Congrats!!!

Chris, that is a beautiful model but you might want to reverse the left landing gear leg as right now it is backwards. Nice job on the canopy and so SMALL!!!

Later,
Fred Z.

HA! Fred, this is my big problem; I just build too darn fast! Thanks for noticing and pointing that out. I will make that fix!
