1/33 Supermarine Spitfire Beer Truck XXX Modification

For some time I have wanted to "overhaul" the Spitfire kit and produce some new versions.

My original four Spitfire kits were based on a old Marek model that I upscaled to 1/33 scale
and modified in a number of ways. Four versions are still offered as part of the Unique and
Unusual Paint Schemes Series.

Its time to finally bring the kit back into the "shop" and update it with a new vector redraw,
improved details and textures, modified parts and assembly...and a whole new set of repaints!

...

First up is a very unique vehicle that not too many people know about.
The Spitfire "Beer Truck".
Modified to deliver kegs of Beer to victorious and thirsty troops in France after D-Day!
A number of aircraft were commissioned for this task, including a handful of wing pylon
equipped Mk.9 Spits.

This model is of one such 132 Squadron Spitfire.

Available now at www.papermodelshop.com

and here, at ecardmodels.com: Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXe RAF Beer Truck XXX Modification

Before you ask...no, this model does not have a cockpit.
Its something that is on my "to-do" list, but I haven't got a round tuit yet.
(And without a "round tuit" I cannot continue)
When a cockpit modification becomes available it will be included in all subsequent Spitfire kits
and will be made available for free to anyone who has already purchased an earlier Spitfire like this one.

Sorry, thats the best I can do at this point.

Beeer barrels or not, it's a beautiful model of a Spit IXe.

Right? I had checked Ecardmodels right before, so the FB page had this up before I even saw it

Dave, I really like the looks of your "beer truck" Spit. I'm thinking of buying it. But before I do, I was wondering what other Spitfire liveries you are planning for this model? Also, do you think this kit would enlarge to 1:24 scale? This is a 137% remains.

Thanks SFX

I'll be honest, the kit has been enlarged once, from 1/50 scale
and although I have made many changes over Marek's original
template, I would not consider it to be a very complicated model
at its current scale. How well it will build at a larger scale might
be a matter of opinion. However I think the artwork will scale up
quite nicely.

If you are going to do a 1/24 build, and will write up a favorable build
thread (lol)...I will give you the kit. I really like seeing big scale builds.
Just email me.

At the moment I have no other aircraft started since I am trying
to get back to the Centurion Tank. However, I am fiddling with a
cockpit for the Spitfire, and once that is done, I will want to put
it into something. But I have no idea how long it may take.

I do have plans for another (specific) American Spitfire and I want
to add some Canadian birds to the collection, so those will be the
first selections.

I really do appreciate your offer of giving me the model in exchange for a build thread.

I'm having some physical problems that have really slowed my rate of building down quite a lot. Even using the computer is getting difficult.

I don't want to promise when I can't deliver so I've gone ahead and bought the kit from ecardmodels and when I build it, at 1:24 scale I will document my work and see if, at that point, I can do a build thread.

I think that, as you commented, that it would take an enlargement to 1:24 with no problem.

thanks again,
Swampfox

I didn't expect any promises...I was joking about the "favorable build thread".
...but if you bought it thats cool.

I will be watching for the report.

Next model is on me...when you are ready.

Just so you know, as a result of all the questions, I have started work on
a cockpit for the Spit. If I can get it sorted out in time, I'll get it to you
for this build. I'm having an issue with sorting out a central former, that is
not already there, so its gonna be a trial and error thing until I get it right.
So, I might need a test build anyway.

I'll keep you posted.

update...
I have a cockpit done for the Spitfire!

Still have to test build it.
Swampfox...if you want to try it in your enlarged build,
just drop me an email and I'll send you a copy of the parts.
