More US Navy Destroyers
As I set up to make models of additional 1/600 scale US Navy WW2 destroyers of the Gridley/Bagley/Benham classes in different camouflage schemes, I realized there were differences between the three classes that I had not considered. There were also differences between ships of a single class during the war, as armament changed. As a result, I developed different models to incorporate those differences.I have uploaded models of USS Mugford (DD 389), USS Patterson (DD 392), USS Trippe (DD 403) and USS Sterett (DD 407).I am working on betas of USS Craven (DD 382), USS Maury (DD 401) and USS Bagley (DD 386).
There will also be a set of detail parts for those who want to upgrade the standard models – more armaments, lifeboats, searchlights and liferafts. I just uploaded the first four models. Wayne |

We've been having problems with thumbnails ever since the crash happened Wayne. I don't think the problem has been fixed yet but don't mind being corrected if it has.

Hi Wayne - I had to download all of these models of my second favorite destroyer class, Farraguts being my favorite. Also downloaded Minekaze.
I like your approach to 1/600 ship models and look forward to more. The Renault FT is still under construction. I have been distracted by having to prepare to teach my Pacific War Strategy elective, which goes hot in about a month, and a couple of other projects, but hope to have it completed soon. Am concentrating on tanks (the 1/50 versions of your WWI and post war tanks in U.S. markings) and my Vietnam50 airplane project, but after Army Heritage Days, I would like to try my hand with these destroyers. Thanks for your generosity in making these models available. Don |

WOW! Great minds ... and all that I just coincidentally posted my plan for the Sims class, Wayne!
Your camouflaging and presentation/annotation is much better than mine. I do think you need to do a little better on the "Potemkin village" stack bases, though. I've done the Bagleys/Gridleys myself. Despite our torpedoes' early malfunctions, surely a *few* could have detonated out of 16! I'm sharing this with the Facebook Naval Wargaming group. KEEP designing. Again, BEAUTIFUL work! A couple suggestions: - You might want to attach the hull sides to the keel amidships. It's MUCH easier to assemble the model that way, although the builder then needs to make pin hole in the keel to register the longitudinal and transverse bulkheads' positions on the reverse/interior side. - At 1:600 scale, working with cardstock, you don't need so many transverse bulkheads. Also, you don't need to put interlocking slots in them, which greatly complicate/slow assembly. And finally, what scale would this print out to on an 11x17/A3 sheet? Note that putting my models in .png and .jpg allows the builder to crop the plan and make it at any scale s/he wants. Again, GREAT job. Last edited by LouCoatney; 03-08-2018 at 02:00 PM. |
