Thanks for another excellent South/Southwest Pacific model, Nobi.
At the time, Red Wrath was assigned to the 498th Bomb Squadron, 345th Bomb Group, Fifth Air Force, based at Port Moresby. It was assigned to pilot Captain Robert W. Judd with crew chief Bowen [first name and rank unknown to me]. In April 1944, 41-30024 was transferred to the 500th Bomb Squadron and repainted. It crashed west of Nadzab on 11 June 1944 during a training mission and was lost with all hands. Pacific Wrecks - B-25D-5 "Red Wrath / Pannell Job" Serial Number 41-30024 Don |

If I'm not mistaken a number of USMC assigned B-25s were in this exact configuration. I remember reading about few famous ones in Osprey " PBJ units of pacific war ". Fascinating read.

Karol - I haven't dug deeply into this, but a quick look at the source you mention indicates that the PBJ-1Ds were USAAF B-25Ds (as you also point out, this configuration) transferred to the Navy and mostly flown by the Marine Corps. PBJ-1Cs were ex-USAAF B-25Cs. The Cs and Ds were essentially identical, but the Cs were built in Inglewood, California, and the Ds were built in Kansas City. [Jerry Scutts, PBJ Mitchell Units of the Pacific War, Oxford, UK: Osprey Publications, 2003, p. 8]. Don

Thanks for correction Don. Those Osprey books are incredible source of info. Just pictures alone are worth the purchase.
