Airship builds

2022 was a lousy year. So Iím announcing 2023 as the year of the airship. I currently have 11 airship models to complete. Needing a place to get them out of the wind I first constructed the airship shed from Ralf Currel, available over at current.net. He also has several free airship model there.

Best wishes for this year!

First airship of the year, the Vickers Transatlantic Airship from Currell.net. Interesting design with the passengers on top. I would think a top heavy design would not be good in an airship, but looks kind of good. Lots of open balconies to enjoy the air. No issues with the build, but I got the last fuselage section cocked slightly so I had to cut it off and reposition to get the fins to line up properly.

Have always wanted to build the Akron, Macon, Los Angeles, and Shenandoah.

I also always wanted to try the Hindenburg by Alan Rose!

I'll be watching this thread closely!

Great subject! I really like the "shed" too. I have a couple of kits in the wings, perhaps this will motivate me to dig one out. By the way, I think that the website has a typo....the correct address is

Card Models Intro - Currell.net I'll be following your build. Jim

You are correct. The autocorrect demon caught me on the first post. Sorry I didn't catch it before posting it.

Next ship completed is the R-100, also from Currell.net. Construction is very similar to the Vickers Transatlantic Airship, but the scale is larger, at 1/700 scale. Those engines and nacelles are pretty small at that scale. Not sure why the Brits used a toothpaste cap for the front. Iím building in a plastic tube in these models so they can eventually attach to mooring masts.

There's a 1:144 model of Zeppelin L.13 on the landships.info website designed by Thorsten Brand.

I still have the 1:200 Hindenberg model. This was free some years ago but seems to have vanished from the Internet.

The R-101 completes the United Kingdom collection. Similar build as the R-101. Itís crash in France (due in large part of being pressured to fly in bad weather) ended Londonís interest in airships.
