Wow...for a while there I was unaware there was a new section for the Marek marathon. I was thinking, "Hey! Where the @!&* is my build thread?!?" :p
Anyways, the fuselage is largely finished now. I was going to make a dramatic shot of all the fuselage sub-assemblies prior to gluing together, but I got carried away with the assembly process and forgot all about pictures. :o Cheers!

I agree, you're doing a great job and this is a fine looking model. Can't wait to see the rest of it come together!

I should also mention at this point that aside from the particular difficulties inherent in a butt-joined model, I haven't had any trouble with the fuselage assembly. The former/skin joints are on the loose side, and the alignment of the graphics between sections has been good.

A bit more progress.
Exhibit A: the machine gun fairings. No trouble with those. Exhibit B: horizontal stabilizers. Interesting parts, those. First of all, Chris didn't say anything about extra points for separate control surfaces, so I took the low road on those. I made things interesting by forgetting to glue in the former for the vertical stabilizer. Ha ha...oops. Now there's no internal structure to glue the horizontal stabilizers to. I'm leaving them free-floating for now until I add the struts, which should fix and hold the horizontal stabilizers' position. The formers for the horizontal stabilizers are meant to be assembled as a single unit. This creates a potential problem if one glues up the stabilizers as a single unit with no separate control surfaces, because once the skins are put on the unit will obviously not fit through the gap in the vertical stabilizer. There are three options, 1) slide the former through the vertical stabilizer and add the skins afterward, 2) cut the former in half, add skins, then glue the halves together through the vertical stabilizer, or 3) insert the former, then fold and glue the skins and slide them over the former. I chose option #3. This worked fine, except I scored the fold line a little too deep on the left stabilizer, so that the paper cracked when folded, which produces a surface that is difficult to touch up neatly. I didn't do such a great job gluing that stabilizer, either -- got some glue too far to the inside of the edges, resulting in some overly-flat surface. Bummer. The next job is to add the stabilizer fairings, which come in two pieces. Looks like it will be tricky to get them placed just right. More on that after I get the job done. BTW, this kit is, in fact, sold pre-printed under the WAK banner, and there is a laser-cut former set available, which Krys has in stock at Paper Model Store. Cheers!
