Marek Marathon; 1:50 Westland Lysander
Can't help it, I like this plane and picked up the Marek kit after I did the Maly kit last year.
I've been working on this one the past few days while finishing up the JU-87 and cleaning up the mess I made afterward! I finished it just now. I have only done a couple of other of Marek's 1:50 planes and I was curious to see how he'd handled some of the issues with this design. Lots of formers. This kit is all bulkhead formers I had originally hoped to do a clear canopy as it's such a big element of this plane's design, but after looking at the internal construction, I decided I'd want to change too much of the existing formers to stay within the guidelines of what Chris wants for his pictures. Maybe next time! As with some of the other kits I've done of Marek's, not all the are there when you need them. I guessed at the position of these canopy uprights... Then added some supports... Then had to cut through them when I added the wing support.:( I guessed wrong. Nothing major, but it would have been nice to have had a couple of positioning lines inside. The landing gear are a handful. One support wire maintains the angle, which is important as the gear support the wing supports. The wheel spats actually look nicer in person. These fit quite well; noticeably better than the Ju-87 kit. I was afraid the wings might be a bit of a nightmare, but they came together quite well also. I was especially happy with the front of the engine cowl. The two front rings managed to get properly rounded without my destroying them! The wing supports also went on well. I've done two other Lysanders, the MM kit and the Super Model and I had challenges on the wing supports on both of them (mostly my own fault, I think?). Finished photos in the next post; Chris |

Finished photos;
There is at least one misnumbered part in the kit and there are a couple of very minor part misfits. Three of the wing support fairings are duplicated when they need to be mirrored. Overall, the kit is straightforward. The main issue is a common one in Marek's kits... more complete diagrams/instructions would be nice! Chris |

Not really in it so much for the competition. I just really like the idea of a mad panic to make paper models!

Absolutely outstanding, Chris!
It's nice to see what a master can do with one of these models. Don |

I've gone back to take another look at the photos and am even more impressed. Pretty soon, I will be giving the cowling of my Shoki a go and would give a lot to have it come out as smooth and precise as yours!

Just got lucky on this one, Don. I was also impressed by how much better the cylinder fairings come out in this scale. Maybe I've been working in the wrong size?!?!

I thought it was a much larger scale until I saw your thumb.
I'm starting to really like this plane after seeing you build it a few times :p
