Looks great! I am rather surprised by all the problems you are encountering. Its rather unusual for a marek. I wonder if I should pull it from sales.

Chris G., I wouldn't pull it. Some of the problems are the kit's, but others are doubtless due to my limited abilities. All in all, I think I will probably be satisfied with the end result. Anybody else who builds it probably will be, too, but I feel I ought to point out where the particular difficulties I had were. I'll try not to come across too whiney.

I'll bet it won't be very noticeable when the plane is completed. Any irregularities will fade in the overall visual impression.

Of course, it's easy for me to say since my very best models tend to look somewhat worse than this. I can understand how aggravating it can be with the very high standard of craftsmanship you display in all your models.

fuselage

I finished the forward fuselage and added most of the remaining fuselage details -- blisters, aerials, and the like. The shape of the nose, with its multiple curves, was a real bear to build, and numerous ugly seams resulted. I disguised these a bit with some paint.

As for the hideous gap just aft of the engine, I reprinted that page on 20# bond, cut out a thin strip of the cowling and glued it over the gap. It's not an exact match, and of course it's not flush either, but I think it looks better than the gap. Here's a before and after...

Later, people!

At what point do you take a model off life support?

Dang...the fuselage was just starting to look half-way decent, and then this...

Marek Marathon: Heinkel He-51W (1/33)-what-heck.jpg

It's obviously some sort of liquid damage (and apparently spraying with matte finish doesn't prevent this ), but I have no idea where the mystery liquid came from. I think this model must be cursed?? And I don't think this will be easy to fix, especially since it is right on the double-skinned cockpit section.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. I can't think straight enough now to decide whether to plug away on this one. :(
