Gary, I was at your house again (2 two days ago).
Actually eating at Popeyes in the plaza there. I said to my daughter "someone I know lives right there. But he's creepy and dangerous, so we shouldn't disturb him." lol ... I also got a papercraft kit. Its the Hulkbuster Battlepack! It seems a lot simpler than this metal stuff... but theres a lot more stuff in the package. ...and its a lot more colourful!

It's worth building one, for the "compare and contrast" experience vs. paper. I assembled one after another person tried and gave up on it, so it was slightly pre-mangled, which may have affected my opinion of the process. I'm not personally taken by the metal kits, but I paper modelers who like them, so form your own opinion.
The Hulk kit, on the other hand, looks like great fun.. |

Yo.... They are fun to build. The difference between a none Metal Earth and other brand kit is the quality of the surface finish and strength at the bend lines. The L.E.M is very tricky to make, especially the thrusters. But when complete it looks very nice. Have fun Sir Dave

I tried a Metal Earth Kit, the SR-71. Since I never qualified for microsurgery, I wasn't able to finish it though. I now treat those metal kits like I treat paper models with triple digit scales..."Next!" Having 10 thumbs makes things difficult sometimes :(

okay...so I am all ready.
Got an old pair of needlenose and sidecutters. Also got some surgical scissors (they cut better than the cutters). And some strong glasses. lets go... ... LOL well, that was frustrating. Part 1 and 2...I give up LOL I hope that was the hardest thing in the kit. Basically just too small for my pliers and for my fingers. And I didn't notice the prescored bends, so I struggled to get the shape. Next one I'll try prebending all the bendy lines first.

Dave, Only creepy and dangerous people eat at the Popeye's. It does look like paper is easier to build than the metal. Keep trying, I would like to see the A-10 come together. If you get it built, I'm assuming that you don't paint it.Gary

Well, as you can see in the photo, I completed the two pairs of small Engine parts. (#1,2,3,4)
I then tackled the first of two Engine Nacelles (#5). Even though the tubes are larger to work with, it was still a struggle to get a nice round shape. The ends of the tube do not connect, as the flat extensions need to form a thicker looking pylon. This actually makes it more difficult to get the right shape. Anyway, I finally got an acceptable looking Nacelle as you can see in the photo, but then I tried to figure out how to get the first two small structures inside the nacelle. They each locate on four little tabs. I tried opening the Nacelle tube enough to get the parts inside... this obviously distorted the tube I worked so hard to create. I still couldn't locate the four tabs without bending and twisting all the parts. The Nacelle is a mess now. I didn't even want to photograph it. I'm hoping that I can try a different assembly method with the other Nacelle. I won't waste time rolling a tube first... but I will have to preform the conical section... you know, if this was paper, I could print another set of parts and start again.
