Great choice:D Have fun. I build this one as well. I actually built a jig to hold the wings in place for assembly.

I think that's a good advice to follow. Thanks Bob.

I have been looking for reference for this one - I know there isn't much but I digged the net for the fun of it. What I found though is that there seems to at least to different development versions of the plane witch differed from each other somewhat. I don't know if this thing ever actually flew but one photo suggests it did - in that photo appears the box like body and the engine depicted in the model.
I opened this thread in the 'Modded' section so I can pretty much do what I want. I have to sketch things a little bit before I start. If any of you have any ideas, comments, suggestions - feel free to join. :-) |

Yeah, when I saw the photo I was thinking of the movie too. I don't have it and I never saw either. I personally think that Mr. Phillips never got this up in the air.

Good one! Here's a quote fron history:
''In 1893, he designed a flying machine with 50 wings to demonstrate his theories in actual use. His "multiplane" resembled a giant venetian blind. The frame measured 22 feet long and only 1.5 inches wide. A coal-fired engine powered the machine and turned the propeller. He tested his craft on a circular track and managed to rise some two-to-three feet off the ground when the engine ran at 40 miles per hour. He built another similar machine that ran on a larger track. In 1904 and again in 1907, he built conducted additional tests. His 1904 model had 20 wings and managed a shop "hop" of about 50 feet. His 1907 model flew about 500 feet.'' His main contribution was testing and trying with airfoils and they we're patented too. |

Intriguing project.
This was the first aircraft to fly in Britain? This is nuts... Terry |

@ Bob: found your thread on these early plane. I was good to see one built before I tackle mine. Very good and clean stock build Bob and I was amazed how small it is. :-)
@ Terry: I agree! |

Thanks,:D Yep I didn't realize they were that small either. I wasn't use to working detailed models at that scale, However, it turned out to be great fun. I really enjoyed building the entire collection.
