Fokker D.VII-2
Hello All,
Here we have a FG Fokker D.VII re-painted as the replica used by Roy Fokker in Macross/Robotech while he was in the Flying Circus. It was supposed to have a turboprop engine so the engine detials were ommited from the top as were the guns. The re-paint was done by Janx. Other thant he re-paint the model is stock. the only thing I added to it was wing boxes for additional strength. I may add some rigging wires but have yet to find the D.VII's wiring details. I wonder if the replica would've had wires anyway? This was the 1st time I've tried to build the FG D.VII and I must say it's a great model. Only trouble was the top wing sits a little to far back based on the struts and placement guides. The outer wing struts were a tad too long and had to be nipped to. Overall a good and easy model to build :D G1 |

Wonderful job! The FG models do scale down very well.

Very nice re-color and build - the FG/John Dell D7 is one of their top quality designs, and I've build one or two myself. I appreciate a small scale (1/72 is it) as I usually build to 1/72 scale.
The D7 had no rigging for the wings (and the outer struts are there only because the pilots insisted - Fokker's original plane had none!). There are wires on the top empanage between the vertical and horizontal stabs (mirroring the lower bracing strut) and crossed wires bracing the landing gear - like most WW1 planes. That's it!. Of course there is the control wires for the elevator, rudder, and aileron - but they are easier to do if you build them in first (as are all rigging wires).

That's a great little model. Your modifications really give it the D-7 look and that's an appealing color scheme.

Ghshinn, Thanks :D I find the FG models look great at 1/72 and smaller.
DrLaser, Thanks for that info :D Uh oh I forgot the the control wires :P I've not too much experience with rigging wires TBH. Are there good tuts on it? I prefer 1/72 on all my models. Especially on WW1 models as I use them for Canvas Eagles, a WW1 air combat game with models :D Don Boose, Thanks :D I'm rather taken with the scheme as yellow is my favorite color (and I'll argue with any who says it's a coward's color). Though not many things can pull yellow off. The D.VII is certianly one of those that can right beside old Ford Mustangs, Corvette Stingrays, and of course any Lamborghini :D Alcides, That would be up to Mr. Janx as he did what I consider the hard work (putting up with my you got this and that wrong e-mails :P). Glad you want to try it out. He's probably gonna do Hikaru's scheme in red to Jagolden01, Thanks :D Glad you noticed the prop I thought about doing a laminated one as a flat prop is boring. I was looking at the beautiful art work on it and thought there had to be a way to make it more 3D. I added a tiny disk of cardboard between the hubs and twisted the props. I filled the gap created with some glue (should have added a putty instead). I then colored the edges with water colors and there we go :D Thanks for all the great comments :D G1 |
