Once they recover the CVR and flight recorder ( Black boxes ), it will clear up.

Even though there was weather in that location, it should not have caused the plane to rapidly descend ( wind shear can cause this descent though, but the plane should have recovered from 7000 feet ).

Speculation on my part ( very early stage )
-either it was intentional
-or the Auto pilot got faulty information and the flight crew did not or could not disengage.

Note: Even though you Aviate first and communicate last, the flight crew would be saying something that the CVR would capture.

For now, we have to wait for the NTSB finding.

Anybody want to tackle a difficult beta build for me? It's a biplane that's about 8 out of 5 in difficulty (for me anyway).

It's the Salmson-Moineau S.M.1, an odd French WWI observation plane. 3 seats, 2-gunners, 2 propellors, one engine.

And the engine isn't where you think it is, or should be...
Upcoming models-004.jpg

The model is 9 pages, with cockpit and front and rear observer/gunner tubs. Engine is not detailed, just a photo. I haven't counted the parts, but it's a standard biplane until you get to the forest of struts. Then things get strange...

Oh, and the plans for the assembly jig shown in the pic are included. I made mine out of foamcore, cause it's $1 a sheet at the local 99 cent store. But cardboard works too. The trick is to make sure the base is 1 piece.

Is that a radial or rotary engine? Looks like stationary radial except for big radiator (?) in front of it.

God bless French and their engineering ideas.A lot of them work marvelously and a lot of them are "way out there man"(Tommy Chong voice).I wonder if they still come up with outlandish stuff like that.

That looks like a challenge, if it’s not taken by anyone yet, I’ll give it a shot for this one.

According to Wikipedia it's a "Salmson 9A2c 9-cyl. water-cooled radial piston engine"

I've got 2 takers, Fortunately there are 2 versions, so I can split them between you.

I hope you'll indulge an editorial comment here.

This "oddball" Salmson-Moineau S.M.1 is just the latest example of why we, as card modelers, should make sure Aaron never gets discouraged because of lack of sales and gives up designing. He's giving us models that no one else will probably ever do, at exceptionally reasonable prices. And over the years, his designs have gotten better and better. I do what I can to support his efforts -- after all, he does indulge my NACA/NASA interest -- and I hope you'll continue to do the same.

I have absolutely no financial interest in Murph's Models. Just a very satisfied customer.
