Checking in
Aaron, keeping abreast with your work here and wanted to make a comment or two. First, hang in there, buddy - every day we get is an opportunity, one way or another. Second, you're getting really good at this paper designing thing! I'm just about to snap up most of your latest kits over at Chris' place. Three, camo schemes are always tough but that is one reason they are cool. Perhaps one way to work these out is to have a 'white beta' build with a grid overlay, then manually 'pencil in the scheme on the beta model as reference when applying in your drawing tools. Seems kinda of old fashioned but it is all about connecting the dots. Though, your Thud looked pretty close even before working out the snags, so... maybe just another one of those 'wipe on, wipe off' things?
Keep up the good work!

I'm getting lots of practice with camo. I just finished off 2 versions for the Lancaster, including the Dambuster version. Although they probably don't count, being 3/4's black. Also, I can't do the pencil on camo because I can't print. I ran out me ink a while ago, and can't afford new ink.

Just bought a bunch of Oddballs from Chris, naturally including the KoWar era B-26 and F3Ds. And the Condors (which I built as plastic models in the late 50s). Looking forward to the C-46 and still hoping for the ROKAF version I used to jump from.

I'm not sure which version that is. I did the one that is at Pima Air museum in Tucson (www.pimaair.com), and an Alaskan airliner version.

With regard to ROKAF C-46s, Aaron, I can’t find my jump log and so don’t know the exact serials of the C-46s I jumped, but any ROKAF C-46 would do.
The one I jumped looked pretty much these images of ROKAF C-46D 44-78053 taken by Jerry Gunner at the ROKAF Museum at Seongmu: http://www.flickr.com/photos/13722921@N06/3223346496/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/13722921@N06/3222454789/in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/13722921@N06/3223285854/in/photostream/ Another image of 78053 by Eric Tanner: http://www.airfighters.com/photo/87143/M/South-Korea-Air-Force/Curtiss-C-46D/78053/ The one visible difference was that the aircraft we jumped had the doors removed (as I recall). The Hangul characters on the nose are 대한민국공군 (Republic of Korea Air Force). When I try the Pima link, I just get a photo of a very pretty young woman. However, Home : Pima Air & Space Museum : Tucson, Arizona (“org” vice “com”) works. That C-46D in 5th Combat Cargo markings is a beauty and I will definitely buy one of those whether or not you ever get around to the ROKAF recolor. http://www.comcar.org/2nd_ComCar/5th...79_reunion.htm Don Last edited by Don Boose; 01-26-2012 at 02:22 PM. |

Oops. I keep confusing .com and .org. I'll take a look at the ROKAF version when I can get to the library.
