2011 IPMC Awards Announcement
International Paper Modelers’ Convention 2011 Awards In accordance with the long-standing customs and traditions of the International Paper Modelers’ Convention (IPMC) and the time-honored Art and Craft of Paper Modeling, prizes will be awarded to exceptional paper models during the IPMC banquet on the evening of October 22, 2011. People's Choice: First, second, and third prizes will be awarded to the models voted “best” by all of the visitors and participants. A small card with a number printed on it will be placed by each model. Every person who walks through the door will be given a ballot to register an opinion as to the models they think are best by whatever criteria they choose. Civil Aircraft model competition: A panel of judges chosen by the Awards Committee on the basis of their demonstrated skill, talent, judgment, and mental acuity will assess all models of civil aircraft. Models will be judged on the basis of artisanship, detailing, distinctiveness of subject matter, and overall appearance. (The issue of whether such aircraft as a Dornier 17 V1 mail plane, a Kawanishi H6K 97-shiki flying boat in Imperial Japanese Airways colors, or Jacqueline Cochran’s 1938 Bendix Trophy-winning Seversky P-35 were “civil aircraft” is above our pay grade and will be decided by the judges if the need arises. See final paragraph, below.) Best table display. Prizes will be awarded on the basis of eye appeal, enhancement of the appearance of the models displayed thereupon, and general “Wow!” factor. Most unusual model: Eye appeal and artisanship count, of course, but this one is entirely subjective, and one award, with one prize, will be determined by the inscrutable Awards Committee Awards Committee Special and Previously Unannounced Awards (ACSAPUAs): The Awards Committee will make a number of awards for categories to be announced at the time of the awards ceremony. As always, the IPMC ACSAPUAs will be unanticipated, astonishing, amazing, awe-inspiring, and productive of wonder, delight, consternation, and puzzlement. The primary purpose of the International Paper Models Convention is the enjoyment and promotion of the art and craft of paper model design and building; the sharing of wisdom, tips, and techniques; the trading of stories about the craft and its artisans; and the sharing of camaraderie and good fellowship. The judging is always conducted in a congenial, non-confrontational manner and the results are inevitably received with joy, pleasure, and congratulations to the winners. Any person who disagrees will summarily be declared chartum opifex non grata and compelled to build the Halinski Yamato using only blunt scissors and library paste. Guys
Due to unforeseen circumstances, I won't be able to attend as originally intended. Fortunately the FG table will still be manned by a couple of master builders. They too will be sporting Tam o' Shanters! I already miss it, especially the auction! Looking forward to seeing your pix. Bob |

Oh wow, when I first read this thread I thought it was talking about a plastic model convention that was allowing some space for paper models... we have our own conventions?!?!?
Will be about 20 years before we see anything like this in Australia :( |

I had an enjoyable time but took no pictures as I was being distracted by school work. I did miss some of my buddies this year, Rick, Kevin, Abby and Bob. It was great seeing everyone else again and getting to meet the infamous Texman.

Dave,
I'll second that request as I was about to ask the same thing. I'm really glad I made it after many years of trying. A great group of friendly modelers (except maybe Jim McNaly:-) ) Learned a lot, got a few bargins, and met so many of the forum members. Have to try for a longer stay next time. JohnO |
