Hurricane 1:1
Hello!
I am intrested in civil airplanes, but everywhere I go I am trying to find any kind of aviation traces. I have seen couple of interesting aviation museums in UK, Belgium, Germany and Poland. Now, as I was asked, I would like to show a couple of pictures of Hawker Hurricane 1:1 maquette from Arkady Fiedler's museum in Poland which I have visited recently. The maquette shows the colours of No. 303 ("Kościuszko") Polish Fighter Squadron in RAF which was flown by Polish fighter ace - Witold Urbanowicz. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witold_Urbanowicz The pilots of the squadron shoot down 126 German agressor airplanes during 'Battle of Britain' which is reflected as a special painting on the side of the plane ('126 Adolf's'). For more information about that important piece of aviation history I would suggest to look for 2 books: Arkady Fiedler: 'Squadron 303' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squadron_303_ (book) Lunne Olson/Stanley Cloud: A Question of Honor: 'The Kosciuszko Squadron: Forgotten Heroes of World War II' A Question of Honor: The Kosciuszko Squadron: The Forgotten Heroes of World War Two, by Lynne Olson and Stanley Cloud And here are some more of my photos: ImageShack(TM) slideshow Cybermac Last edited by Cybermac; 10-09-2011 at 07:14 AM. |

one of the hero's from that Polish Squandron you know flew a B-26 in the Biafra war and the plane was lost over Lagos in 1968, making it surely one of the last B-26's to be lost on a military operation its not known if the makeshift bomb went off in the bomb bay are it was shot down It was painted Volkswagons green as there was a volkswagon plant in Lagos and the Biafra forces painted the planes that green

Seems to me that A-26's were still in use into 1970 in Laos by our guys. I had the privilage to see both a Hurricane and a Lancaster from the Battle of Britain flight at the Ramstein AFB Air Show buck when I was in the Army in the 70's, nothing in the world like the sound of one of those Merlin engines!

B-26...
Hello!
Nice to see you like it guys! Yes there are some beatifull Spitfire and Hurricane maquettes all arround the UK. Here is the on I have seen in Yorkshire Aviation Museum... As far as I know, there are very few B-26 examples. One is going to be made from 2-3 different airframes in PIMA, (40-1501 number and painting scheme). I am not up to date, please correct me if I am wrong. The Polish pilot mentioned above was probably the figrter ace - Jan Zumbach... Jan Zumbach - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |
