Castle AFB Air Museum
Another museum visit from last summer...and in answer to a couple of comments: yes I do plan my vacations around museums and shows. A few samples: 1957 American La France O-11B crash truck, Avro Vulcan, Convair HC-131A, Kamen HH43B Huskie, big boom MK-17 thermonuclear bomb next to B-36. 2013-07-21 Castle AFB Museum - Wayne Hulsey (whulsey)'s Photos
As always enjoy and post any corrections, etc. |

Excellent choice to visit. Open Cockpit Days in about May let you go into many aircraft there including SR-71, B-36 nose, Vulcan. Highly recommended to visit!!

I can neither confirm nor deny the presence of nuclear weapons on this facility.
Nice photos of some aircraft. It is good to see them close to each other to get an idea of the sizes compared to each other.

The Kaman Husky has long intrigued me, and could make a dandy model. Of course any model would be incredible if the rotors turned with proper synchronization, but that's probably too much to ask from a paper model.

Castle has a great collection. It's on my museum bucket list.
The museum I work at has a B-36J and a Mk17, but they are not next to each other as planned. When they moved the collection to the current museum location, the cranes lifting the bomb broke under the load and dropped it onto the concrete. It's sat right where it dropped for the last 14 years. The casing is now too damaged to move without causing more damage. |

Just cruising through the pictures, and I think I noticed a mislabel. Picture 42 isn't a B-17, unless somebody stole the outer engines while you weren't looking. :-P
And 48 looks a bit sparse...and cramped...to be a B-52 cockpit. Sweet looking Hound Dog in 52 though. |

Hey Aaron, how does a Douglas B23 sound to you?? On the cockpit my notes said it is a mockup of a early B52 so anybody else can confirm or deny what it is?
Anyway thanks for the catch and the id on the Hound Dog hanging off the wing. |

The cockpit picture looked similiar to the one of a link trainer later on.

It is a training or design mockup not a actual cockpit in a aircraft.
