I had two visitors yesterday....John Wong and Dave Bailey of the Ajax Model Show.
They dropped by to discuss a few things with me. First off, their interest in putting me and paper models at the show. But it was explained, that the only reason there was a "paper model" category, is from last year's event, when someone entered with a paper model. I was asked to commit to the show on the 29th and in return they would honor the paper model category again this year. This is nice to hear, if noone else shows up, I'm guaranteed a win! lol ...although I still have an issue with a single blanket paper model category. Means if I bring more than one model, maybe a Tank and a Plane, I'm putting them up against each other and I am competiting against myself. Anyway, for me, I would enjoy promoting paper more than anything, and thats why I would need to bring more models and other stuff to promote with. So, I'd need a Vendor table to make the trip and costs worthwhile. Unfortunately, Vendor spots are sold out nine months before every event and I was informed that there were no available tables.* We did however discuss the possibility of my involvement in the 2017 event. I asked about creating more paper model categories (at least three, air, ground and water) and it just comes down to sponsorship of the categories. The cost is minimal...I've already told them I would cover that to make it happen. We also discussed the judging issue....an issue that needs to be resolved. I guess I can consider offering my services in that regard, but then I can't compete. Something to think about. We discussed advertising...promotion of websites, online stores, etc in return for participation. I'm sure, at this point, that I will be involved next year. Maybe this can be the Paper Modelers North event? If enough people are committed to being involved. Although the event (Ajax) is 3 hours drive for me... it closer to Toronto, and closer to central (southern) Ontario. Hopefully making it more accessible to more Ontario modellers? I'm going to discuss this more with them ...and more with you, over the next year. And I am hoping we can get more members interested in taking part. ................ *As a result of the inavailablity of vendor tables, I am probably not going to take part in this years show. That would have been the deciding factor for me. And I've got another event to attend on the very next day and preparing for the two shows on the same weekend would be very difficult. And....this way I can save some models to use at next years event!

As far as this past weekend goes...
it was an enjoyable but different show. A lot smaller than other model events... we were all a bit cramped in the 822 Squadron Cadets Centre. Vendor tables were awkwardly positioned and had to be rearranged before the show opened to accomodate many vendors and their wares. The organizer of the event admitted more than once, that this show is run a bit differently with the main focus being a FundRaiser for the Cadet Squadron and an excuse to honor the Cadets and "fallen heroes". There were three presentations during the event with the cadet band performing twice along with speeches, memorials, and appearances by special guests. Everything was a bit rough around the edges, but well received. Lots of fundraising food available (a Bake Sale and outdoor BBQ) I was impressed with the competitive model turnout... a lot more than I saw in photos of their past events. I manned a vendor table of my own ....selling Printed kits (my own), Discs with Models, and displaying a few examples of paper models. Unfortunately for me, I spent more time socializing with fellow paper modellers Gary and Issac and I ignored my Table most of the day. This of course means I ignored many potential customers and as a result I didn't sell a thing at this show! I at least like to recover my costs for the day...I didn't! LOL All in all, a fun day out...I'll do it again next year. But I will talk to the host about reorganzing the tables and layout of the show. I think it could be much improved. I didn't take many photos, basically just a few of my own entries.

I had a great time, and it was nice to spend time chit chatting with Dave and Issac. It was for a good cause. I will definitely add this to my calendar as an annual evet.
Dave, at least Issac put the sticker on the car. That's advertising. Gary

This show was a bit different as Dave said. A big part of it was the cadet ceremonies etc....
There were some serious modelers, but they were looking for plastic kits. Noting much else. Also, it was a small venue, so after 1 hour it was done. I spent a good bit of time with the flight simulators upstairs. Also the award ceremony was muddled. It was too noisy to hear and in my case, other than the category, I did not really know which model won what place. As far as paper models, we showed the flag, had our models on display and some won. But this crowd was not interested in paper modeling as I saw it. Pictures soon. Isaac

A day spent in the company of you three would be great!
Thanks for keeping us in the loop about this show and your participation, Dave. I look forward to hearing about your participation next year. Looks like you have enough folks to form a critical mass of paper modelers (and some of the best, at that). Don |

Some pics
here are some of the pictures I took.
I took in the conversion category the 2nd and 3rd place for my TA-183 and the Gloster E28 ( not sure which is which as the presentation was confusing. Not a big win since there were only 3 models. Also, I displayed my partially built Suchoi 7 More pics coming Isaac
