Thumbs up Attention, Kiwis...

....I have been a bit slack in promoting this event this time round but the biennial Scale Models Expo will be held in Wellington, New Zealand, 5-6 Sep 09. The venue is the Lower Hutt Horticultural Hall in Lower Hutt.

Apologies for the short notice for those who might wish to travel....

Don

I consider myself so commanded...should have the link to pics up by Monday night somebody's time...

I can guarantee that there will be some paper models there, even if unbuilt as one of the displays is to show the broad range not just of model types but also model manufacturers so Answer, Modelik, Hobby Model and Orel will be in display - I had hoped to also have covers from some of the downloadable manufacturers like Nobi, Ken West, Martin Sanger etc mounted on card in the display but have just run out of time as we are away first thing in the morning and I still have a bunch of chores to do before leaving...

Simon

Hi Dave - probably the last thing you want to hear but it was a great weekend - got a good 80-90 photos that I will post into this thread over the next week or so...would have more but batteries died on the second day and I wasn't able to duck out and grab some more...I can say that there definitely will be a paper modelling stand next (2011) time as there was a lot of interest in the paper models I had there 'in the box'...

Show General

I've had a look at my pics and I think that easiest way is to break them into logical groupings and list each grouping in its own post probably over a few days as this maybe quite a slow process over a dial-up connection – Photobucket by its very nature is not dial-up friendly...

...first up is the show general pics which are a general overview of the show...

This is the sole paper content of the show – part of a display showing the range of model manufacturers that are or that have been available over the years. This is the first year we have done this display so we expect an even more comprehensive turn-out next time round (this is only about a quarter of the display but my batteries died before I could snap the rest. The four paper models on display aroused a lot of interest including a number of modellers from other disciplines who admitted that they had dabbled with paper models at some stage, and, more importantly, others who were interested in sources to have a go themselves...

The show hall in Lower Hutt – the high roof provides for some lighting issues but we have been using this venue for a few years and have a good relationship with it and it has a good location...

Science fiction section

Mr Hopley's amazing train set – and he's allowed to keep it in the house!!

This was my personal best of the show: scratchbuild, + the skull in the foreground and was displayed with an AV display and handcrafted booklet on the creation and some of the artist's other works...more than anything, this sculpture really captured the sense of power and movement of the beast....

Judges – tough job this year!

The guy who built the armoured train above is also building the GPM PP-52 armoured train but scaled down to 1/35 some it isn't quite as long and probably in the other 'P' media...he also did the Leopold in the general post and added the framing for the camo nets which to me adds a whole extra level of depth to the big gun which I have always thought looked a bit bare on its ownsome...

Dioramas

This Rhodesian T54/55 caused a bit of comment regarding sources and whether they were actually used by the RAR or not...I think most people assumed that it was Soviet with Spetznaz until they read the label...
