Fairfax VA Model Classic 2023 show
The Model Classic, an annual plastic models show hosted by the Northern Virginia chapter of IPMS, took place today. Our small group of paper modelers were given prime real estate near the entrance in the vendors area (along with other model-related groups, such as model railroaders, model soldier enthusiasts, and ship model builders). Scot Reinmann led off with his space models, as well as some buildings for his sons’ tabletop gaming. Peter Ansoff, who had made all the arrangements with the organizers, ably answered questions and provided handout sheets and a signup for those who would like more info about the paper modelers convention. Anne McCombs (me) showed an assortment of subjects and scales. Peter Heesch brought a large selection of models for sale and was pleased with the interest and purchases by the visitors. Pictures are attached, in the order mentioned above. (Some thumbnails are on their sides, but the full size pictures display correctly on my screen.)

It was a very good show with lots of interest and great conversations as always. It was fun hanging out with you guys for the day.
Zach’s Parker Solar Probe and Kirchdorfer’s Dawn held off some of the plastic kits to take 3rd place in the Space Real and Space/Sci-fi Out of Box categories respectively. Congrats to the designers.

The May/June issue of the IPMS USA Journal carried a short article about the 2023 Model Classic, including a mention of paper models and a photo of our display (see pp 12-13).
