Touring the 2022 International PaperModeler's Convention (IMPC)

Due to dietary restrictions, I was unable to join the group for dinner, and therefore, I missed the auction, and Jack’s famous (infamous) selling of kits to promote the next year’s IPMC (the 25th). The dinner is also known for encouraging community after a long day of hosting paper modeler visitors.

It appeared that some food was provided buffet-style; the glasses held iced tea, not an alternative, end of the day, brown liquid-diet supplement…

Everyone dining pays a fee to join the dinner, and they enjoy conversation, trading tall stories about short models, and catch up on the past year. Then the evening’s entertainment involves Jack selling off interesting paper model kits after the dining (see room Two Auction Table). In addition to the auction, the awards are announced; prizes and recognition for select kits, either voted collectively or awarded by select IPMC members. The dinner closes out the formal events, though there is rumor that random parties and other secret society activities commence around the witching hour...

So that was the 2022 IPMC; just in time for the 2023, 25th IPMC.

Maybe the proximity of the review and tour will encourage last minute attendance?

Maybe the Thread will encourage new ideas for whom-ever reviews/tours the 2023?

My goal was multi-fold:

• Present the events for those unable, but wishing to attend,
  
• Permit these who did attend, but were not able to move about, to see what they were missing, when they were otherwise greeting and hosting visitors,
  
• And offer information for the newbie or novice...somethimes even the more skilled!

Build tips were purposely collected from all persons who were interviewed, and they have all been shared; hopefully to springboard, from this event, the knowledge and skill building that is needed to succeed in the craft. I am very invested in promoting to young people, and aspiring builders, what can be passed on, while those talented individuals who are currently present, can share their knowledge. We are all aging and the skill and expertise of this oft ignored craft deserve a legacy. Young people would benefit from the non-digital application of skills, even if the kits are digitally designed and offered.

Tips for software design were also suggested by some artists; as well as materials/tools choice for builders of any experience level. I hope this help persons from the new-starting to the designer-willing.

I also included this year, from each artist interviewed, reasons why they came back, year after year after year. Hopefully that will inspire consideration for those who have not made the trip, to take a little journey to Sterling Va.

Finally, this Thread was completed before the 2023...with much thanks to those who pressed me. Your encouragement was appreciated. I hope that the photos and written content were both helpful.



You might almost think that this wasn't a project put off due to schedule demands this year, but a clever plan to stir attentions just before this years IPMC...
