I would be interested, but Winnipeg is awfully far away from Toronto.

Tim,
Look at it this way, it is still a smart move to join, you are might be the first in Winnipeg, and not know anyone else, but now that your name is part of the group, others might join because you are in the same city they live in too. you would be the seed for the other Winnipeg paper modelers to join the group Rick

exactly...we can call cpm a national club
and let it represent any card modeler that wants to be part of it. I know I will eventually be focusing on cpm "east" or cpm "ontario" primarily ...maybe you can start the cpm "west"? theres nothing to restrict anyone from being involved, even someone outside of Canada. and at this point, you are doing nothing more than adding your name to a list of other Canadian paper modelers.

Ok, I signed up on facebook. Or would that be "fanned up" since I technically became a fan?

good show!
yeah, thats the silly facebook thing. (to be honest, i don't really get facebook...but it does work to help compile a list of members or "fans") I tried to make a "club" page, but I think it recognizes me as a "business or organization" and keeps asking me for business info for the profile page and trying to sell me ad space! its very annoying, but I think its too late to worry about it now.

I think anything that promotes the hobby can be seen as a positive. Might be hard to hold a national convention, but we could always try a virtual convention. Sounds weird, but it could work.

I dont get facebook either. I have an account that I check once every 2-3 months, and I only got it to talk to one single friend who has stopped using email and facebook is the only way to get a hold of him.
You know, a Googlegroup would work too. But youve already started up the facebook page... |

Facebook? What's that?
Seriously, I've no account there (and I really wasn't intending to get one), but please don't discount my interest. GoogleWave maybe a good place to collate our ideas. Sean |

you see?
now I have a problem with the way Google collects info, logs and stores personal info, tracks and records your internet activity and targets you heavily with advertising. other than that, Google is a great search engine. (I guess its all a personal experience thing) The purpose behind facebook was a simple method of allowing a member "signup" ...so I could create a members list and also a way to collectively communicate with those members. I can send a collective email or message and it is a central point for communication. Any group I create will require you to "sign up" with basic information so whats the difference with facebook? To create a facebook "account" you must divulge: a working email address (and confirm the account through that address) a name and user name to access the account and your birthdate to verify you are of the minimum required age to use facebook. Thats pretty minimum if you ask me. Before this grows too far, I will take a look at "googlewave" and see if it is a viable alternative. I already looked at Yahoo...but their pages and interface never struck me as being as user friendly as other sites. I would like to keep things as simple as possible. (When I said I don't get facebook...I meant, that I didn't understand the "social networking" element of facebook, in the same way I don't understand this "twittering" thing. We are breeding a society of people who feel the need to document every silly element of their lives and broadcast it to everyone.)

googlewave looks very interesting
and I will be checking it out when it is released. unfortunately from what I read so far and viewing the first ten minutes of their 1hr20min explanatory video, it appears to be just another variation on "social network" sites like facebook. it is presently in a pre-release, by "invitation only" preview stage for testing and tweaking purposes...so it really isn't a viable alternative for our application...at the moment. so.... for the purpose of creating a "sign up"...a simple way to join cpm and create a central list of members and be able to communicate easily with the entire group of members and post relevant info regarding the group I think facebook may be the simple solution. beyond that, we have this great site for communication and at some point, I will also establish a smaller but dedicated message board for cpm itself.
