cpm Canadian Paper Modelers Group

I was curious as to how much interest there would be in joining an organized "club" of Canadian Card Modelers?

I'd love to promote Paper Modeling more in Ontario and anywhere in Canada.

Meeting other Card Modelers from Ontario, arranging meetings, conventions, get-togethers of any type,
Making appearances at Hobby related Shows and Events,
representing Canadian Card Modelers at any type of event,
are just some of the things I am interested in.

I have already started an information page on my Card Model site
and if there is enough interest, I would start a Message Board/Forum to share group related info and activities (outside of what we share here at PaperModelers of course).

if you have interest or have any suggestions or ideas,
please feel free....

I've not a pile of time, but I'd be interested certainly. I think this hobby needs a serious boost here in Canada (and SW Ontario where I am). Most of the really good hobby shops have closed up since I was younger, leaving bare resources for a community of hobbyists.

I think once a group of members is established, then a maybe a meeting or convention can be arranged...
maybe some modelers would be interested in making an appearance at a Hobby Show, or Air Show, some sort of event where we could promote the hobby.

Who knows, maybe we can arrange to be represented at a US event in the future.

but for now, I think the goal is to establish the Canadian group
and get interested people to join.
As I said, if there is interest, I can start a private message board for the group and we can organize things from that point.

With permission, we can continue to use this site as our primary information and communication source.

Hi Dave,

I think you're onto something Unfortunately I'm *stuck* in Ottawa (God I miss Toronto) but I'd really enjoy being part of a group like this. I left Toronto 2 years ago after almost 30 years there, and this is just another reason to add to my many more reasons for kicking myself in the *ss for leaving the GTA.. Anyways Count me in

Ron

the positive response so far is encouraging.

at some point (maybe in the New Year?) I will set up a message Board or something like it
which can be our "home base", at least for establishing Group membership information...

papermodelers can still be a central point for all communication
(if the "powers that be" don't object to that)

to be honest, at this point I don't know exactly what it will mean for us
but it can't hurt to recognize the Canadian contingent?

I'm not an expert with facebook but I have started a "Club" Group
here:
canadapapermodelers-facebook

for the moment, this will be a way of signing people up
and creating a membership list.
(Please feel free to go there and sign up and become a "fan")

I have also established a dedicated email for the group,
you can get the email link on the cpm information page here

I am working on the idea of creating a simple website for the group.
And at some point, I will establish a "Message Board" or Community Forum for cpm.

At some point I will also need to ask for some members to run a few things, like:
someone to manage the facebook page
someone to manage the Message Board
moderators for the Message Board
members to handle group related activities and operations

anyone interested in taking an active role should please make it known for future consideration.

if anyone has ideas or experience with building an operating a 'group" like this
or any suggestions in this regard, please contact me and offer up your help!

I'd be up for visiting events and such in the GTA, maybe further once I get a car...

As for new message boards and what not I doubt I'd be active. Aside from event notices and discussions about attendance I'm not sure what would be different than what we do here.

Maybe just a simple posting on your cpm website with guestbook style replies would be sufficient to indicate interest in attendance. Or maybe a small free bulletin board (plenty online) to just post announcements and take some replies, linked to from the cpm site. Unless bots spamming the board are still a problem these days you wouldn't need much moderation either.

I almost forgot but the de Havilland factory turned museum in Toronto actually sells papermodels of the Avro Arrow, designed by a guy in Kitchener. Sorry I forgot his name but I can look it up. I bought one and was thinking of building it next, but maybe you noticed I'm not exactly consistent in my modelling :o
