I'm thinking of making the blocks and deadeyes out of wood, small blocks out of card. Not sure what type of line to use, and various thicknesses are needed, although will likely color the line myself. But first have lots of work to do on cannon and carraiges, (sp?) swivelguns, boats, anchors and related items, belaying pins and posts. Found alot of stuff here http://www.boatmodelling.com/

A very useful link, Glen! Many thanks.
It's "carriages," but I really like "carraiges." Sounds like a kind of gun: sakers, minions, falconets, zumboorucks, carronades, culverins, carraiges . . . You really do have your work cut out for you. For someone with your steadiness of hand and ability to work small, it might be easier to fabricate blocks and deadeyes out of layers of card, rather than boring out the holes in tiny pieces of wood (I am spinning this out off the top of my head and from a vast wealth of ignorance about the making of ship model rigging). Right, Don! My swivels are "falconets" notice on the link that Shipyard now has a new vessel 1776 American "Lexington" brig looks "easier" than Cleo AND rather tempting. This would probably have been my first shipyard kit had I known it was coming out.

It's looking good. The figurehead and anchor are excellent!

Thanks Jim! Most pleasant modeling with some study necessary, although Shipyard seems to get the details right. Will try to complete the hull model with belaying posts and pins, have turned some walnut deadeyes in slightly different sizes, don't have all the line sizes needed yet, but building a growing pile of tools and materials...

It's more beautiful every time I see it, Glen. How about a shot of your miniature shipyard ("growing piles of tools and materials")?

Thanks again Don, is really fun. The "shipyard" is more commonly referred to as "dad's mess", and had to buy a plastic bin with drawers to put away the paint, wire, line and general stuff that is needed at this stage. Wood for blocks (some old walnut my grandfather cut in the 60's New York origin)

Hey Jim, see above not really much to show I'm afraid. I make a big mess when working although my son says he sees some organization in it, I think he's being nice
