Beautiful work, Glen. Cleopatter looks great, even without the gammoning, bumpkin, and dolphinstriker (while we were at Cape May, I was pointing out gadwalls, widgeons, pintails, coots, ruddy ducks, and green-winged teal to Don3 -- he said to me "You ARE making these names up, aren't you, Dad?").

Don thanks, right, those are pretty much all old names, I suspect some of the bird names are older!

I've gone through your thread with joy because I'm very much interested in sailing ship and bought same one as you are building but left it untouched since it seems beyond my skill and I don't have enough knowledge on sailing ship.
After reading your thread I knew what I can do is to follow your build sitting on the desk after all.... Great build, Glen |

Thank you Yu, that I take as a special compliment seeing your model work. I downloaded Steel's from modelshipworld and have it on a thumb drive, it's 17 mb! Very cool reading in the old English, and well illustrated for the time. Part one is rigging and construction (shipbuilding art per Steel) and volume 2 is naval tactics. 1794 I think. However if one would like to try a ship I think Mondale's (which I found in the public library!) is a great beginning. Of course for the little details "The Masting and Rigging of English Ships of War" 1625-1860 By James Lees. Amazon has it used.

You're very welcome, and hope you have success with this, if you have specific questions, ask away. Don, I was hoping no one would notice the names I made up!

Erratum- not "Modale", it's :"Historic Ship Models" by Wolfram zu Mondfeld. This can be purchased cheaper than Lees and gives one a great starting point to understand what the other books are referring to, and a decent reference in it's own right!
