Personally I think the T-70 or T-72 would be pretty cool, but they're all good.

Tracks are finished....

The first image is the two track lengths - one of which is bent backwards - just to show the build technique makes flexible tracks. I made the grousers a bit thicker than than the specified 0.5mm - I thought that made the grousers look a bit skinny. It's striking how asymmetrical the Tiger tracks were - the second image is a comparison between the Tiger track and the Porsche Tiger track which was much more conventional in design.

The heap of roadwheel parts is just that - a heap. Next task is to make roadwheels out of it.

Regards,

Charlie

Beautiful tracks Charlie. That is a load of road wheel parts. I'm sure in your hands the result will be fantastic.

The tracks look great, Charlie. I'm really impressed with your tackling this kit. I take it out every once in a while and look at it, shudder in fear, and put it away.
Forgive my ignorance, but didn't the Tiger use two different sets of track? A thinner, more conventional set for "city" driving and these wider ones for open country? Or am I just misremembering again?

You're correct about the two track types. The details are a bit different. I'd better fill in some stuff first - the German army used rail transport as its primary method of moving heavy equipment around. All rail systems have a loading gauge which specifies maximum sizes and weights of loads. The Tiger tank was too wide with its normal tracks (725mm wide) to fit inside the German loading guage. To transport the Tiger by rail a narrower set (520mm) of tracks was fitted and the outer roadwheels removed. The changeover took something like 30 minutes - and a whole bunch of very bad language I'd imagine. The transport tracks were only used to get the tanks on and off the railcars.

Regards,

Charlie

AH, thanks for the clarification. I didn't get too much of that one right, did I? Oops.

Impressive heap of wheelments, Charlie! Looks like you have gotten much of the drudgery out of the way.

Won't make the deadline with the Tiger but I'll eventually get it finished.
