Having a big chunk of country untouched by the risk of enemy action in which to train pilots was the big point in favour of the allies. Neither Japan or Germany had the luxury of training enough pilots to allow for attrition let alone rotation for R&R.

In addition fuel consumption of the huge radials was tremendous, Hellcat, Corsair, P-47, ect. However futile the development of aircraft on both sides was paradigm shift, biplanes to jets in under a decade.

After looking at 3-views I think the question Will astutely noticed about the gear is correct. Although the position of the tank is not identical in all the views, the most common location is for the lower edge of the tank to be aprrox the level of the axel for the main gear. Mine is definately lower. So I will fix that, as if I don't it would definately bug me.:D Have proceeded to remove the gear, and as I had rolled receptacles for the wire in the center of the gear I was hoping if the attachment points were freed the gear would draw out-and to my amazement they did! So I'll have them back on shortly(working the next couple days, so after that likely unless I burn the midnight oil, unlikely)

Oustanding, Glen. I sure hope I can carve out a little time this weekend to do a little work on the Shiden. Your Hellcat is an inspiration.

Thank you very much Don! It has become quite a fun build, and I have new knowledge a bit about the aircraft. Looking forward definately to see your Violet Lightning (right model? Perhaps only applies to N1K2)

You really added a bunch of stuff to the original gear didn't you. Looking good!

But Glen, can you trust a grebe on a display shelf?
It looks mighty suspicious there.
