The road wheels look great, Kevin. I'm glad you are able to get back to work on this one.

Getting close
The road wheels are very close to being finished now. I only have to glue the remaining rim/sidewall assembles onto the wheel then finish them off by applying the "tread" section and a little grey paint. I think these are the most complexed wheels that I have ever built. But, so far so good. Believe it or not, there have not been any major fit issues to mention. Whoever designed this model really did a fantastic job. I guess I was fortunate when choosing this model considering the numerous problems that Maly models are known for.

Very Nice. I acknowedge your attention to fit and alignment. Overall a great build so far.
BTW, I use lure boxes also to keep track of all those little parts. |

It's always nice (inspiring) to see your work, Kevin, and this one is no exception. It's hard to believe this is an old MM kit. Keep up the great work.

Wrapping it up!
After a full day of building, I finally finished the road wheels and the suspension arms. I chose to use a solid wood axel rather that the rolled paper one provided in the kit, I did however use part of the original paper axel (which is the only part of it that's visible anyway) After mounting all of the wheels, I added the fuel and oil drums to the top side. I'll save the main gun and radio antenna for last after the tracks go on. NOW On to those tracks! Only a few more days to go! 'gotta get busy.

That's looking fanpapertastic Kevin. What you can do with a MM kit blows me away. I look forward to seeing the tracks.

Thanks guys for all your positive comments!
Were almost slide'n into home with this one. The tracks are finished! I think these were the easiest (and fastest) tracks I ever built. The tracks that come with this kit are a simple "band" type. I first laminated the "outside" tread strips to a sheet of 0.5mm cardstock to add a bit of thickness to what would otherwise be a pretty thin set of tracks. I then cut slits through this sheet where the hinge points would be to allow the finished tracks to be more flexible. After cutting the slits, I laminated a thin sheet of regular bond paper (I used some graph paper that I had laying around) to the back of the sheet. After that, I was able to cut out the strips without having the links fall apart. Each track is made up of two sections, the sections were joined together with another piece of thin bond paper. I then flipped them over and attached the "inside" halves. All of these steps were done using 3M77 spray adhesive. Next I added the guide plates and touched up the edges with some matching acrylic craft paint. Hopefully I should be able to wrap everything up tomorrow. Stay tuned. |
