Don, this is for you.
As you can see, the wire making the landing gear goes attached to piece 17L (or P for the starboard side). But I went beyond that and made it longer, then I could "hooked" the wire around piece 17L. I found out that thanks to this, the plane can be on its tricycle landing gear very well. |

Thanks for taking the time and effort to provide the illustrated explanation, Gerardo. You are the soul of kindness.
Your approach makes a great deal of sense, but I am going to take a different approach because my Hampden has a landing gear with two main struts (similar to the Wellington and some other British bombers of the period). I am going to use two 1/16-inch hardwood dowels for the main struts. I'll wrap these in paper to bring them to the correct diameter and shape, and then drill them for the axles and cross bracing. I intend to carve a balsa block for each nacelle with the holes for the u/c struts drilled in. Then, at the appropriate time, I will insert the struts into the appropriate holes and hope that the resulting structure will be strong enough to hold the model (I am influenced by Bill Geoghegan's experience of the collapsing Bf-109) and that the use of a bit of balsa will not cause the Troll to disqualify me from the contest. Let me say again how much admire your B-25 and how much I appreciate your thorough explanations and your readiness to respond to questions. You reflect the spirit of the the Aztec Eagles of the MEAF 201st Fighter Squadron. Don Last edited by Don Boose; 02-27-2008 at 02:59 PM. |

And to toot the model, according to OldTroll's last rule... here I declare...
It's as finished as it's going to get. |

Congratulations, Gerardo. It's nice to see what someone of your skill and experience can make of one of these models.

When this contest began by OldTroll initiative, I asked him for the B-25 to build it in honor of a friend of mine, Connie Harth, who was a B-25 pilot on WWII, stationed in Italy, and with 55 bomb missions on his bag, and two of the most important medals for flight missions. He held the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
I am sorry to say that he passed away on his sleep today after some months of illness. He also was an extraordinary modeler, and he built more than 400 models, most of them were of the vacuum kind, 1/72 scale. He was building 4 models when he began to feel sick, and he kept on modeling even in his condition. And I was so lucky enough to make an interview where he told me many details of flying a B-25 on bombing missions. I hope to edit it very soon and upload it to youtube. Rest in Peace, Connie Hearth. |

So sorry to hear. I hope that model collection is destined to somewhere where it can be viewed and appreciated, looks like it would be a true shame for that not to be the case. I look forward to seeing your inteview.

I'm sorry to hear that what sounds like such a great man has passed. I too think it would be a shame for his model collection to go unseen, and I look forward to seeing the interview.
