First, I've also been to the Hornet in Oakland, but this aircraft is not from the same ship. It is from the squadron that flew off of the original USS Hornet aircraft carrier, CV-8 which was the ship the Doolittle Raiders flew off of (I'm pretty sure some of the Raiders bunked with VT-8) and also the ship that lost almost all of Torpedo Squadron 8 at Midway. Also attached are some photos of the aircraft depicted! If you look at the first link below you'll find some information about the particular aircraft. A few good links: Douglas TBD Devastator list by Lynn Ritger TBD Devastator Units of the US Navy - Google Book Search U.S. Navy Dive and Torpedo Bombers ... - Google Book Search The scans below are from the TBD Devastator in action by Squadron Signal. The profile is the aircraft's previous identity, and the photo is of the aircraft at NAS Norfolk before embarking on the USS Hornet. Ryan the tardy!

I am sorry if I caused some confusion by posting to this thread. I knew it was old, but wanted to let the individual I appreciated the work and it happens to be a favorite aircraft of mine let alone the history of Midway. I was just giving the fella some props.:(
