Bowling Pin

Are there any life size bowling pin models availible?

I would design one but I wouldn't know how to do it on the computer, which leads to another question. What software do you use to make your models?

That answer is about as broad as the answer to "what kind of bread do you use on a sandwich".
Some use paint programs(photoshop, paint shop pro, ms paint), some use 3D software( milkshape, metasequoia, CAD), some still design by hand on the drawing board, some scratchbuild. I guess it comes down to personal preference, education and software cost.

I recently downloaded Google Sketchup, which is free, though I haven't used it much yet.

What would be the best free software choice? I happen to be new to 3D software, and I appreciate advice.

I have tried the hand-drawn scratch build, which works well if you have a lot of time. I built a 1/200 scale space shuttle model.

I may be the wrong person to answer this but I'll try.
I work in 2D with paint shop pro, don't know much about 3D software.
If you use a Microsoft OS, then try MSPaint. You can also try paint.net
which is free. There is also a version of Paint Shop Pro that is free (v3.10?) it says it is trial but the software keeps working after the trial.

I don't know if there is free 3d software but, milkshape 3D has a free 30 day trial. Of course you will also need Pepakura designer to unfold, also free to try.

I think google sketchup free will not let you export models for unfolding, but I'm not positive.

You can import Google SketchUp files into Pepakura, but only the registered version. There are a few "unfold" scripts available for SketchUp.

Another way to start is to use Metasequoia to build the model, then save in the mqo format which the trail version of Pepakura imports. At least it did. I haven't tried it in a long time.

For a starter, you're on the right path...only thing you may need to do is register Pepakura.
