Hashima (Battleship Island)
Not sure whether to put this here or in architecture.
I picked this up in a souvenir shop in Nagasaki during a recent trip to Japan: a model of Hashima Island (or Gunkanjima Island or Battleship Island). It is an uninhabited island near Nagasaki, used for coal mining, and with a dark history of forced labour in World War 2. It was made a World Heritage Site in 2015. It was also used as one of the locations in the movie Skyfall. The model is by Yoshinaka.jp, who also designed a number of free models for the Canon Japan website. It took just one day to build.

Very nice build of the model. Looks like a lot to keep straight.
That is one interesting looking set of ruins. The history of that island is interesting, too, if somewhat sad. It would be a good day trip to wander around on that island if it were allowed.

There are regular boat trips going there, and I believe it is possible to get onshore as well. Unfortunately I was not long enough in town to go there.

Compare the paper model to a virtual walk through of the island
