The Dogs' Debate
I've made a few of Cool for Cats' automata and this is one of their earlier kits and one of the more basic ones.
The base is about 9 X 5 inches and the whole this is 10 inches tall. When the handle is turned the taller dog opens its mouth and growls - the smaller one then replies again opening its mouth and jumping. Its growl is a bit higher pitched. There is one large cog that turns and makes two pieces of card vibrate in turn. This time I decided to strengthen the teeth on the cog using super glue. It works well and I wish I'd done the same thing for the other automata I've made. Cheers Mike |

Well done Mike. It looks like a lot of fun to build.

That's intriguing. There can't be that many automata that make their own sound. I like the speakers built into the base. Do they act as such or are they only decoration?

Thanks for the comments.
It was pleasing to make - some of the cool4cats automata are a bit "optimistic" The speakers work in the same way as the old fashioned "trumpet" record players. Having stiffened the "cogs" the dogs make quite a loud noise. Cheers Mike |
