My Christmas model for 2023

As you may remember, each year I make a paper nativity scene for Christmas. For 2023, it is the 44th model…
The original idea may be described as a flower, a book or a rainbow that links a dark base to a bright top. After a few unpublishable sketches, a simplified drawing and a complete list of parts, with shapes, dimensions and colour indications follows. Believe me if you want but that’s enough for a friend to understand and pass them to a file ready to be printed.
The lower part of the base is shown in the first construction picture. The bulk of the model consists of a centre box. From each of the 3 side faces, the petals or pages (as you wish) stack over, as you can see in the following pictures. The assembly needs care but is quite straightforward.
The top has a star with 20 parts. It is supported by 3 columns standing up from the characters level. The characters are always the same, based on triangular shapes.

And that’s it. I enclose a couple of pictures of the completed model. It is a little over 10cm high.

I like it. The style is reminiscent of some post-war churches and civic buildings which used this angular semi-abstract style in both the building fabric and sculptures.

Amazing! Great to see some of the design process—delightful and neat sketches and notes. Smart use of a polyhedron as the core of the star.

The mounting technique for the fanned-out rainbow plates looks like something that could be adapted for a JWST model...
